If you want to learn how to navigate WordPress.com, you've come to the right place. In this guide, you'll read about the interface, and how to use it when you're working on your shiny new website.

The anatomy of the homepage

When you first log into your WordPress.com account, you'll be greeted by a screen that looks something like this:

This is the main Reader section of WordPress.com. It allows you to stay up to date with any other WordPress.com sites you follow. When you're just getting started, the only site that you're following is your own.

Additionally, you can click any of the options in the sidebar to discover what else WordPress.com has in store for you, like the following:

Conversations – what people are saying about posts that you either liked or commented on
Discover – find interesting stories, blogs, and popular articles from the WordPress.com community
Search – filter through billions of posts
My Likes – every post you've ever liked

As you've probably noticed, the Reader section of WordPress.com is mostly about other people's content. To see your own content, go to the My Sites section of your homepage.

Navigating WordPress.com and managing your content

First, click on My Sites in the top bar.

This is where you can find your publishing tools.

What you see in the very center of the screen are your current website stats. If you're just getting started, there's probably not much activity there yet.

Creating new posts

The first thing you might want to do is create a new post. Do so by clicking Add next to Blog Posts. To see all your blog posts, click the Blog Posts label itself.

This will direct you to WordPress.com's editor, where you can input your content and eventually publish your post ( https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/ ) .

Pages ( https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ ) are created in a similar manner. Click on Add next to Site Pages.

Don't forget about the Media section, as it's where your images are stored.

Viewing your website

If you want to see your newest post (along with everything else currently on your site), click on View Site.

Checking your comments

After your post goes live, you can check to see if you have comments, and moderate them if needed. To do this, click on Comments in the sidebar.

Enabling social media

If you want your content to automatically be shared on social media, navigate to Sharing ( https://en.support.wordpress.com/sharing/ ) in the sidebar.

With WordPress.com, you can integrate your website with popular social media platforms.

What else can you do?

There are additional areas of the WordPress.com homepage that you should visit every once in a while:

Themes – you can refresh the design of your website with a new theme ( https://wordpress.com/go/website-building/9-free-wordpress-com-themes/ )

Settings – make sure the main settings of your website are what you want them to be, including your site's main title, tagline, and other details

Now you can navigate WordPress.com like a professional. Put what you've learned to use and begin working on your new website with confidence!
